The Constitution Park of Las Torres de Cotillas was the scene on Sunday, May 27, of the 'III Fiesta Huertana Cotifolk', an event organized by the homonymous association - which is composed of peñas 'Rincón Pulpitero' and 'L'Almazara', and the ethnographic group 'Vergel de Murcia'- in collaboration with the local council.
A proposal with free participation that integrated the new day of the European project 'Do U Sport', which on this occasion proposed popular and traditional games, and had the motto 'Recovering our games and developing values ​​of fair play and intergenerationality.
In addition, in this Huertana party -which had a great participation- there was breakfast Huertano with donuts, sponge cake, choocolate ..., 'quadrilleo' with music and dances by the hand of the cuadrilla torreña, food with crumbs, rice and ribs, and paparajotes in the menu and to end a goodbye with a jotica of Murcia.
Traditional games
The proposal of traditional games was the tenth of the project 'Do U Sport' and was again coordinated by the Department of Physical Activity and Sports.
"Participants were able to enjoy activities such as making grinders, sack races, elastic, hopscotch, ribbons, throwing olive bone, caliche, petanque ...", says Councilman Ginés Pérez.
"We are very happy because each activity that is organized with this project has great public attendance and this was no exception", explains the mayor Isabel María Zapata, who recalls that nine other activities have already been held within the framework of this project : kite flying, multi-adventure, dance and sports on wheels and racket, an urban gymkhana, a day of sport on the street and another day of hiking.
European project
The European project 'Do-U-Sport' is part of the 'Erasmus +' program and its main objective is to explore the role of local authorities in the promotion of sport as an activity for all, free of barriers.
In this proposal, which began in January 2017 and will last until next December, Las Torres de Cotillas participates in collaboration with the municipalities of Tábua (Portugal) and Mielec (Poland).
With a budget of almost 31,500 euros for the Torreño municipality, this project is subsidized by almost 75% by the European Commission.
"Consolidating the role of local authorities in promoting sports for all, increasing the number of people and organizations involved in sports activities at the local level or promoting a deeper understanding of how sports are seen and experienced in the municipalities are other of the objectives of this project that is already underway ", explains the councilor for Physical Activity and Sports.
