Environment invests more than 33,000 euros in preparing and signaling the path of the protected area of Rambla Salada (14/07/2018)

The Community, through the Ministry of Employment, Universities, Business and Environment, has invested a total of 33,158 euros in the work of conditioning and signaling the path of the protected site Humedal de Ajauque and Rambla Salada.

Restoration activities have been carried out within the municipality of Las Torres de Cotillas, in the section that runs between the tourist lodge of this town and the Lomas de la Melera, to the north, and the Segura River, to the south .

The work, in particular, consisted of improving the layout in those sections where it was more deteriorated, reaching to expand its width up to one meter to facilitate the passage of users and avoid the entry of vehicles that may damage the road.

In some sections, it has also been necessary to carry out specific vegetation clearings that made it difficult for pedestrians to pass through.

The General Director of Medio Medio, Consuelo Rosauro, toured this week part of the newly conditioned stretch accompanied by the mayor of Las Torres de Cotillas, Isabel María Zapata.

"These actions are framed in our commitment to value the unique spaces of the Region and thus promote their knowledge and direct contact of citizens with these natural resources, so that they are involved in their conservation through sustainable and responsible use of them, "said Consuelo Rosauro.

As part of the improvement actions, co-financed through the European Fund for Regional Development (ERDF), the information and directional signage that was in poor condition has been replaced.

In addition, within this project a triptych has been published in which the main environmental values of the surroundings of Rambla Salada are collected and a map that, in addition to including the paths of the trail of this landscape, includes information on other trails near this area , like the footpath of the Mula River or the footpath of the 1.000 steps.

The protected landscape Humedal de Ajauque and Rambla Salada constitutes a fluvial ecosystem of great importance, with stretches in which ponds and ponds are kept almost all year round, which gives it an ecological richness of great variety.

In this natural space you can find typical formations of river banks of Mediterranean temporary channels in which tarayales and reeds predominate, as well as ecosystems that require less humidity such as albarinales and salt marshes.

In them species of characteristic flora of the Region are developed, like the juniper, the ephedra, the sabina, the black hawthorn or the salty whites and species of fauna of great value, between which they appear birds like the heron real, the common plover , the stilt, the short-toed eagle, the great tit, amphibians such as the frog or the corridor toad, weasels or aquatic species such as the gambusia or the carp.
