Cotillas Towers will fight the abandonment of pets (17/10/2019)

Stop the abandonment of pets.

That is the objective of the campaign that the Department of Health, Sports, Sanitary and Animal Protection of Las Torres de Cotillas, together with the Local Police, will launch for the detection by chip of pets without identification.

This initiative will begin next Tuesday, October 22 and will review the animals that circulate through gardens or on public roads to check if they are properly identified.

In a first phase - from October 22 to 30 - owners whose animals are not identified and are located will have a period of 15 days to justify in the Department that they have proceeded to identify the animal.

As of November 1, owners whose pets lack identification will apply the current legislation.

Numerous dropouts

"This campaign is launched before the many pet abandonments that have occurred in the municipality in recent weeks," explains the mayor, Joaquín Vela Fernández.

Animals that lacked identification by chip, despite the fact that the Municipal Ordinance and the Law 6/17 on the Protection and Defense of companion animals oblige them, which has made it impossible to locate their owners.

In addition to trying to reduce the number of dropouts, this campaign will also help an easier recovery in case of lost pets.
