One more year Don Juan, Doña Inés and the rest of the characters of the classic of José Zorrilla returned to the stage of the House of Culture "Pedro Serna" of Las Torres de Cotillas.
It was last Saturday, November 19, in an evening starring the actors of the amateur theater group "Tejuba" of the municipality, who fulfilled the tradition of representing "Don Juan Tenorio".
And they did it before a crowded yard of seats that applauded the staging of this work, a must in the repertoire of this group that this year marks its 50th anniversary.
The action of this work, which was premiered in 1844, takes place in the Seville of 1545, in the last years of the king Carlos I of Spain, and narrates the vicissitudes of Don Juan Tenorio, a young gentleman delivered to a life unrestrained of bets, Love affairs and duels.
"We represent a reduced version of this classic of Spanish theater, but it keeps all the popular essence of the work," explains the director of the theater group, Joaquín Cantero, who remembers that like all his representations in the municipality, .
50 years on the stage
The theater group "Tejuba" was founded 50 years ago by Juan Baño and this 2016 is celebrating this high-profile birthday with many events.
Composed of amateur performers, this group has never ceased to produce theater in an activity that unites more than 40 people in ages ranging from one year to the seventies, since it has a large quarry of actors that guarantee the continuity of this group.
In its repertoire you can find sainetes, hors d'oeuvres, classical theater, as well as current theater and sacramental autos.
