Nearly 500 students participate in the new edition of the juvenile program to prevent the consumption of drugs and alcohol (07/02/2018)

One more year the campaign of actions to prevent drug addiction and alcohol consumption among young people has returned to Las Torres de Cotillas, aimed at the school community of the municipality.

This initiative, known as the 'Community Argos Program', will be extended until next March and is once again addressed to students in the 1st year of ESO.

"As a novelty, this course has been extended to ESO secondary school students, who want to prevent the negative effects of alcohol, tobacco and cannabis use," says Councilwoman for Social Services María Dolores Sánchez.

This program is promoted by the Ministry of Health and Social Policy, and has the collaboration of municipalities Murcia, schools and health centers.

"The students participate in didactic sessions with their tutors and one of which takes place in the town's own health center", explains the mayor, who specifies that this year there are about 500 students from the IES 'Salvador Sandoval' and 'La Florida', as well as the schools 'Divino Maestro', 'Monteazahar' and 'Susarte'.

At the end of the didactic units, the students can answer a questionnaire to participate in the contests 'Alcohol: conscience with science' and 'Drugs: Altacan', in which a technological product will be distributed by educational center among the students who correctly answer at least 7 of the 10 questions.

Other initiatives

The municipal center of Social Services coordinates this program, framed in the actions that are developed in the municipality for the prevention of drug addiction for the 2017/18 academic year.

"Another of these actions was carried out last November, some risk prevention workshops associated with alcohol and alcohol for 2nd year ESO students and basic FP", says Sánchez.

The IES 'Salvador Sandoval' and 'La Florida', the 'Divino Maestro', 'Monteazahar' and 'Susarte' schools and the 'Nuestra Señora de la Salceda' vocational training center participated in them.
