Torreño schoolchildren choose cinema, free wifi zones, a foam party and two festivals with participatory budgets (15/02/2018)

The students of Secondary, Baccalaureate and Formative Cycles of Las Torres de Cotillas chose Wednesday February 14 the proposals that will be made thanks to the participatory budgets for 2018 and 2019, where each annuity has a game of 15,000 euros.

In total there have been 587 students who have voted in the municipality, which is more than 91%, and a total of 10 volunteer students from different local institutes have collaborated in the recount.

The proposal with more votes -222- is to enable public spaces to host free summer film sessions (auditorium 'Juan Baño') and winter (Casa de la Cultura 'Pedro Serna').

"This project proposes the screening of a film per week, which has more than a year old, will cost 10,000 euros and will be carried out during this year," says Mayor Isabel María Zapata.

Two other projects will also be carried out this year: the creation of free wifi zones in the Parque Constitución and the municipal library (169 votes for a cost of 3,872 euros), and a foam party with inflatable slide (152 votes, 2,000 euros ).

Two festivals for 2019

For next year there are two projects that will be carried out and young Torreños have opted for more playful proposals.

On the one hand, a festival 'Holi Run' (217 votes, 6,800 euros), which will feature various activities and whose celebration is scheduled on Juan Carlos I Avenue. On the other, a festival reggaeton and trap for over 16 (187 votes , 8,000 euros), which will take place on the grounds of La Emisora.

"There were 46 proposals that passed the technical filter, since among other aspects it was requested that the projects could be carried out in 2018-19, that they were of general interest, of municipal competence, viable and technically legal and that they were in the economic frameworks established ", explains Zapata.

Greater transparency and efficiency

Hand in hand with the Council of Transparency of the Region of Murcia - with its president, José Molina, at the head - and the University of Murcia, this campaign of participatory budgeting has focused on schools in the municipality.

"The participatory budgets have to give greater transparency and efficiency even to our management of public resources," says the councilor of Finance, Angel Gonzalez, who notes that this follows the path established by the strategy 'The Towers 2025 Come and Stay' "This initiative collected ideas and proposals from citizens, concessionary companies, businessmen, merchants, cultural, political and social agents of the municipality for months," says González, who stresses that "it was a very enriching process".
