Hundreds of participants of all ages have enjoyed today in Las Torres de Cotillas the day of hiking proposed by the European project 'Do-U-Sport'.
This free activity has departed from the municipal shelter and has had a medium-low intensity route of about 8 kilometers including round trip.
"The walkers have walked in direction to the area of La Contraparada de Javalí Nuevo, passing through the area of Rambla Salada and the banks of the Segura River", points out the Councilor for Physical Activity and Sports Ginés Pérez.
In the area of La Contraparada the attendees were able to participate in an environmental workshop of balls of life in charge of ECOM and in the games and dynamic scouts of the local group 'Ithaca'.
In addition, the participants of this day that has coincided with the celebration of the 'National Day of the Greenways' have had the option to return by bus and take your pet.
This proposal, the ninth of this European project and which has once again been coordinated by the Department of Physical Activity and Sports, had to be suspended in February due to bad weather.
"It is a pleasure to see how our neighbors respond to these activities, which always have great attendance of participants", explains the mayor Isabel María Zapata, who recalls that eight other activities have already been held within the framework of this project (kite flight , multiadventure, dance and sports on wheels and racket, an urban gymkhana and a day of sport on the street).
"These are some of the proposals that are part of the free sports activities with the family that take place every month with this project," says the mayor.
European project
The European project 'Do-U-Sport' is part of the 'Erasmus +' program and its main objective is to explore the role of local authorities in the promotion of sport as an activity for all, free of barriers.
In this proposal, which began in January 2017 and will last until next December, Las Torres de Cotillas participates in collaboration with the municipalities of Tábua (Portugal) and Mielec (Poland).
With a budget of almost 31,500 euros for the Torreño municipality, this project is subsidized by almost 75% by the European Commission.
"Consolidating the role of local authorities in promoting sports for all, increasing the number of people and organizations involved in sports activities at the local level or promoting a deeper understanding of how sports are seen and experienced in the municipalities are other of the objectives of this project that is already underway ", explains the councilor for Physical Activity and Sports.
