The City of Las Torres de Cotillas has received a grant of 5 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to make investments in the municipality through its Strategy for Integrated Sustainable Urban Development (EDUSI) 'Las Torres Conecta'.
"It is a great news, with the added value that this strategy is born of citizen participation", highlights the mayor Isabel María Zapata, who explains that these investments will be structured around four main axes: improving the use and quality of ICT, favoring the transition to a low carbon economy, protect the environment and promote efficiency in resources, and social inclusion and fight against poverty.
The request for these grants, coordinated by the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration, was approved in November 2017 by the municipal plenary session, with the resignation of Cambio Las Torres.
"It was the second time that we presented our project to this call and in the previous one we were just behind Murcia," says the non-attached councilor María Ángeles García, deputy director of the project, who points out that "EDUSI is a project born from the participation of various associations and groups of the municipality, which for months contributed their ideas and opinions for the improvement of the locality ".
"This project will only allow a large investment in the municipality and a leap in quality in the service to our neighbors, but it is a useful tool for many years that will allow us to continue working on the improvement of Las Torres de Cotillas," says Zapata , that remembers that to this important subsidy to which a municipal contribution of 1,250,000 euros will be added.
Four lines of work
For the line of improvement of the use and quality of ICT, a budget of 700,000 euros is foreseen and will involve the improvement of electronic administration, the development of actions to catalog the city as "smart city" and mobile applications and services that allow the participation and interaction between citizens and the City Council.
For its part, the commitment to a low carbon economy will have a budget of 1,800,000 euros and will be aimed at the development of sustainable urban mobility and connection with industrial zones, and the promotion of the use of renewable energy in buildings and municipal vehicles .
In the objective of protecting the environment and promoting the effectiveness of resources, the budget is 2,150,000.
This section highlights the proposal to move the National Radio of Spain (RNE) antenna from its current location in the Parque de la Emisora to an area outside the urban area.
Finally, a budget of 1,600,000 euros will support the chapter on social inclusion and the fight against poverty, in which the project for the creation of an intergenerational social center of a polyvalent nature stands out, the implementation of a social integration plan for families in vulnerable situations, the regeneration of degraded areas and the improvement of access to employment for disadvantaged groups.
