The regional government has awarded the contract for the replacement of the fiber cement roof in the 'Vista Alegre' school of Las Torres de Cotillas, works that will have an investment of more than 123,000 euros and a deadline of two months.

"Measures like this show that we are covering the needs of our schools and the demands of the educational community of our municipality," explains the mayor Isabel María Zapata.

In the specific case of the 'Vista Alegre' in recent times the electrical installation has been improved "so that it can support the new needs in terms of improvements in lighting and technological resources, and air conditioning," reports the councilor for Education, Pedro Cabrera

"In addition, in this center were reformed the toilets of teachers - creating one for the disabled, which lacked the center - and Primary and Children's Education, the foundation of the center was reinforced and a playground was built in the area of Infantil ", highlights the mayor.

Another section in which Torreño City Council works without delay is to solve the air conditioning needs of the schools of the municipality.

"We have bought portable air conditioners of 3,500 BTUs for municipal facilities and they are already used by the public schools of Infant and Primary that have requested it," explains Zapata, who points out that it is "a transitory solution while the Ministry of Education undertakes the works planned to air-condition the classrooms of these teaching centers ".

In addition, within its 'Weatherization Plan' the Ministry will provide schools 'Joaquin Cantero', 'Vista Alegre', 'San Jose' and 'The Park' with 3,000 euros each for actions that minimize the impact of high temperatures.

Other works

In addition, from the regional government has been put out to tender the drafting of the expansion projects of the 'San José' (work to be tendered for 1,300,000 euros) and the air conditioning of the 'Joaquín Cantero'.

"And the Ministry of Education is going to renew the electrical installation of 'San José', for which the project is already being drafted," recalls Zapata, who indicates that all these improvements are the result of the road they travel "in collaboration with the directions and the AMPAS of the centers ".
