Flamenco Torrena Flamenco dancer Cynthia Cano has been chosen as the prelude to the 2018 patron saint festivities of Las Torres de Cotillas.
"With only 24 years Cynthia is flagship and flag of our municipality wherever she goes, our culture, wasting her talent and showing that she is one of the most important artists of our country in her discipline", highlights the mayor, Isabel María Zapata.
"It is an example of perseverance, talent, work, sacrifice and maturity, and for all this we could not have a better pregonera for our parties", explains the councilor.
The artist will open next Friday, August 24 (22 hours) with his proclamation these traditional celebrations in honor of the Virgen de la Salceda.
An initial evening in which, as has been usual in recent years, will also proceed in the municipal auditorium 'Juan Baño' to the coronation of the Queens Children, Youth and Home for the Elderly, and the appointment of 'Raspajo of the year'.
Before special parties
"I felt a great joy and great pride in knowing my appointment to be a precursor of the festivities of Las Torres de Cotillas, my town", acknowledges Cynthia, who explains that she has already received many congratulations, among which one makes her special illusion .
"That of our mayor, Isabel María Zapata, for her attentive words to me and because, in some way, not only represents the municipal corporation, but also the feelings of the various associations, groups and anonymous people who surely shared the appointment and that I from here thank you from my heart, "she says. Before her there are special parties, in which I hope that everyone will enjoy and share them with so many people that she loves.
A party that every year tries to live to the fullest, provided that their work allows it.
"With this being an artist today I am here and tomorrow in Beijing, but I try to continue with what I was doing, like going to the offering of the Virgin, seeing the coronation of the queens with the artists that bring or follow the charamita" , he points out, while recalling his favorite acts of childhood: the floats, the burning of the Raspajo, the best decorated street ...
Some celebrations that will officially begin with his proclamation, a speech that -as a professional journalism novel that is- has already begun to shape.
In it he will visit his beginnings in the town, his time in the choir of the church of the Virgen de la Salceda or his career in which was the cultural association 'Badana', which activated his passion for flamenco;
will offer recognition to these cultural associations;
or ponder the importance of dance and culture.
This year's proclaimer is a Torreña de pro and for her Las Torres de Cotillas is her essence.
"I have many friends from childhood, but also of all ages, whom I love very much, even if I do not see everything I want and that speaks very well of the people of this town," he acknowledges.
And if your town is important, your work -the dance- is your life.
In it he wants to continue growing, learning from the best, researching, creating his own artistic identity, which -as she says- "will of course have the stamp of Las Torres de Cotillas".
Great artist
Cano began in the art of flamenco dance at two years of age in the cultural association 'Badana' of Las Torres de Cotillas and has not stopped since.

He has shown his art in corners around the world, such as Cuba, Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Chile and Morocco, while in our country he has toured the best flamenco tablaos ('Casa Patas', 'Corral de la Morería'o'Villarrosa') and the most important festivals (Lo Ferro, Sucina, Úbeda, Sevilla, Castellón ...).
"At the 'International Festival of Cante de las Minas' of La Unión, one of the most prestigious, was a finalist in the 'desplante', being the first Murcia in history to achieve it," explains the Councilor of Celebrations, Amalia Pérez .
