The regional government, through the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, has already launched the project for the construction of a storm tank to be built attached to the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) of Las Torres of Cotillas.
"It is an infrastructure that we have been requesting for a long time to solve the problem of quality of the rainwater that is derived to the Segura River as it passes through the municipality, especially during the heavy episodes of rain," explains the mayor of Torrena, Isabel María Zapata.
The project of this storm tank has already been drafted by the Ministry and its construction will cost approximately 6 million euros, which will be borne by the Regional Government.
For its part, the Torreño City Council is committed to dispose of the land where this facility will be built, which will allow the first rainwater to be stored - which is the dirtiest - and will send it gradually to the WWTP for treatment.
"We want to thank the Ministry and especially its owner, Miguel Angel de Amor, for the investment in this infrastructure so necessary for our people," says the council, which states that "this tank will allow greater environmental control of these waters."
Meeting at CHS
In this regard, on Thursday, October 4, Torrena met with the president of the Segura Hydrographic Confederation (CHS), Mario Urrea, to request inter-administrative collaboration to obtain the necessary permits for the construction of said work.
"These are obligatory procedures that the Ministry itself requests to make the storm tank project viable," explains Zapata.
In this meeting, which also involved the Councilor for Environment and Water, Inmaculada Fernandez, also raised the study of measures to prevent incidents of pollution as soon as the tank is executed.
