The IES'La Florida 'of Las Torres de Cotillas has obtained an honorable mention in the final phase of the 19th edition of the' Ciencia en Acción 'contest, which was held in the Viladecans district of Barcelona from October 5 to 7.
A group of students from 3rd of ESO competed in the 'Mathematics Laboratory' mode thanks to the work 'Buscando a Pitágoras', a set of activities organized around the findings of the well-known mathematician.
"This project was carried out last year and was directed by the teacher of the Iria Vidal mathematics department", explains the Councilor for Education, Pedro Cabrera, who points out that the work proposes a series of playful and manipulative activities on the findings of the known Greek mathematician
"Among them, he highlights the origins of the musical scale, the regular polyhedra, the irrational numbers and his well-known theorem," says Cabrera.

The Torrena representation in Catalan lands -the City Council paid for bus travel expenses- consisted of two teachers (Marina Goyena and Iria Vidal) and 23 students: Lucía Turpín, Zaida Vidal, María Rodríguez, Leire García, Sandrá Arumí, Irene Ortiz, Pilar Gonzálvez, Sergio Goyena, Julián Martínez, Ángel Martínez, Víctor Ponce, Rocío Rodríguez, María Bernal, Sofía Arques, Silvia Gambín, Laura María Pérez, María Alvarado, Michelle Rosales, Eliana Blaya, Carmen Dólera, Paula Yagües, Mireya Ponce and Paola Ruiz.
"We are very happy with your success in this contest that has as its scope Spain, Portugal and the Latin American countries and we congratulate you on behalf of the entire municipality," says the mayor of Torrena, Isabel María Zapata.
The contest was organized -among others- by the Higher Council of Scientific Research (CSIC), the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry (RSEQ), the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (ICMAT) and the National University of Distance Education (UNED).
