- The bidding process for the construction of a storm tank that will be built next to the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) of Las Torres de Cotillas is now open.
"It is an infrastructure that we have been requesting for a long time to solve the problem of rainwater quality that is derived to the Segura River as it passes through the municipality, especially during heavy rain episodes", explains the mayor of Torrena, Isabel María Zapata .
The regional government, through the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, will make an investment in these works of 4,314,650 euros, to which will be added 315,294 euros for the extension of the pretreatment of this treatment plant.
Both actions, charged to the budgets of the Regional Wastewater Treatment and Sanitation Entity (Esamur), will be fully implemented in the year 2019. "Our City Council is committed to dispose the land where this facility will be built, which will allow the storage of First rainwater - which is the dirtiest - and will send it gradually to the WWTP for treatment, "says Zapata.
Double objective
The construction of this storm tank will have a double objective.
On the one hand, collect and store the most loaded water during the rain episodes for further treatment in the treatment plant.
"This measure will minimize the possible discharges to the public channel, which will allow greater environmental control of these waters," says the councilor.
On the other hand, it will be possible to take advantage of the rolling capacity of the tank to regulate the inlet flow in the treatment plant in dry weather, thus maximizing the treatment capacity of the installation.
