The fourteenth edition of the 'Torreño del Año' awards, organized by the radio station 'Onda 92-Radio Cotillas', will be delivered tomorrow, Saturday, December 15 (8:30 pm) at the Casa de la Cultura 'Pedro Serna' and they have decided their destinies.
The winners will be the researcher, historian, teacher and chronicler Ricardo Montes, the Alegría family for its artistic Belen with more than 55 years of history and the local businessman Antonio Sarabia, recently deceased, for his passion for cycling and collaboration with others.
The delivery of these distinctions will be made during a gala that will be presented by Marisol Núñez, broadcaster of the municipal station.
In this event, along with the honorees, different artists and groups will participate: the ballet of 'Kimera', the actor Francisco Sarabia-affectionately known in the town as' Paco el sastre'- and his monologues, and the guitarist Antonio F. Morell 'El Zurdo' and the singer Mar López.
"These awards, established in 1993, recognize the tenacity, perseverance, generosity, and capacity for effort and sacrifice of our neighbors," explains the mayor, Isabel María Zapata.
In addition, these are people who, along with these merits, "exude other qualities no less important as their humility, sympathy, closeness and sensitivity, which dignify the trajectory of this award", says José Antonio Sánchez, member of the organization.
Three Torreños with important merits
Ricardo Montes, researcher, historian and teacher, has a long and worthy professional career.
Doctor by the University of Murcia and professor of Secondary Education and Baccalaureate since 1981. As an archaeologist he has directed numerous investigations, has delivered more than 90 lectures and published more than 160 articles.
As a historian, he has guided research on the Region of Murcia towards local histories, with more than 90 books directed or published.
Since 2012 he is president of the Association of Official Journalists of the Region of Murcia.
He is the Official Chronicler of Las Torres de Cotillas, Honorary Councilor, Adoptive Son and honorary member of the clubs 'El Vergel' and 'L'Almazara' and of Onda 92-Radio Cotillas.
The nativity scene of the Alegría family, with 55 years of history, has become an authentic work of art, admired and awarded, since in the nineties each year it received the first prize at the provincial level.
It has been visited by thousands of people from the locality as well as from the Region of Murcia and from outside of it, among customers of its trade, teachers and students of educational centers and other visitors who every year want to contemplate this marvel.
Antonio Sarabia, awarded posthumously, for his passion for cycling and service to others.
He started pedaling on a bicycle at the end of the 70s and little by little was setting up his own shop for the repair and sale of bicycles and all kinds of accessories for the practice of cycling.
Much loved in the squad Murcia biker has always had the love and friendship of fans, organizers and the greats of the peloton: Alejandro Valverde, Luis León, José Joaquín Rojas, etc.
His generosity has been reflected in his extensive collaboration with cycling races, associations and institutions Torrena and with countless events.
