Next Wednesday, December 19 (10:30 a.m.), the lands of the Park of La Emisora ​​de Las Torres de Cotillas will be the scene of one more year of a new edition of the municipal school cross.

An appointment that has been presented today at the school 'San José' in an act chaired by the mayor, Isabel María Zapata, the councilor for Physical Activity and Sports, Ginés Pérez, Torreño athletes Sergio Jornet and Angel Salinas.

"In this test a total of 1,106 athletes will participate, which shows the great depth that has in our schools this great sport festival," says Zapata, who notes that the General Directorate of Sports, 'Hero', club 'Athletics Las Torres' and the local body of Civil Protection.

In addition to receiving encouragement to participate in the event, the 'San José' students were also able to consult Jornet and Salinas - regional and national champions in combined events and speed respectively - about their experience in athletics.

"They have been asked about their careers, their training, their achievements ...", explains Pérez, who emphasizes that Torreño athletes have shown them a selection of medals they have achieved throughout their careers.

Divided by categories

The test will be divided by age into five categories: benjamin, where 216 participants will cover 500 meters;

alevín, whose 359 runners will complete 1,000 meters;

children, with a total of 1,000 meters for its 291 athletes;

cadet (193) and juvenile (95), which will run 2,000 meters.

"The awards ceremony will take place at 1:00 pm and there will be a medal to the top three finishers in each category, divided into men's and women's categories, as well as the teams that remain first and second classified", explains Pérez.

The participating centers will be the schools 'Cervantes', 'San José', 'Valentín Buendía', 'Parque', 'Joaquín Cantero', 'Vista Alegre', 'Divino Maestro', 'Susarte' and 'Monte Azahar', the institutes 'Salvador Sandoval' and 'La Florida', and the Professional Training Center 'Nuestra Señora de la Salceda'.
