The City of Las Torres de Cotillas is going to launch a project to connect the healthy itineraries established in the municipality -both municipal and popular-, thus promoting the practice of outdoor sports.
"It is a joint initiative of the Department of Physical Activity and Sports and Health, which bet on the exercise as an essential pillar for the maintenance and improvement of health and prevention of diseases, for all people at any age", explains the mayor, Isabel María Zapata.
Currently the municipality has several healthy circuits defined and marked on the grounds of the Issuer, located in the vicinity of the municipal sports center, where there are also several gym equipment on the side of Onofre Fernández Verdú municipal soccer field.
"In addition, spontaneously and for some years, the Paco Rabal Park has become a very popular circuit, which is known as the 'cholesterol walk'," says Councilor for Health, Inmaculada Fernández.
Now, thanks to a grant of 7,300 euros granted by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the Torreño City Council will connect the routes of the park of the Issuer with the gymnastic equipment and the areas of regular walks chosen by citizens.
"It will be a signposted itinerary, properly adapted, that will allow in turn to establish broader routes", advances the councilor of Physical Activity and Sports, Ginés Pérez.
Betting on sports
The itinerary goes through a common circuit that departs from Reyes Católicos avenue and passes through the entrance to the area of gymnastic devices in the municipal sports center, to continue along the avenue and the streets Salvador Frutos and Velázquez.
There, the itinerary will bifurcate and users will have two options: on the one hand, walk towards the avenue of the Industries, the streets of Valencia and Pontevedra, to conclude in the park Paco Rabal;
on the other hand, take towards the avenue of the Industries (east direction), Doctor Fernández López square and the Constitution Park.
"The commitment to sports is one of the priorities of our government team, and that is why this area has been strengthened in the 2019 municipal budgets", highlights Zapata.
In fact, subsidies to sports associations and games of sports programs have increased to meet the increase in sporting events.
In addition, the gerontology courses, the medical office and the multi-sport school for summer vacations have been extended, as well as a 35% increase in the amount allocated to adapted sports.
