Exactly ninety years ago, the famous aviator and founder in 1927 of the first Spanish aviation company - the CEFTA -, the Navarrese Julio Ruiz de Alda, made nearly 10,000 aerial photographs of the Segura river areas both in the Region of Murcia and in the provinces bordering Jaén, Albacete and Alicante.
Among those frames commissioned by the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura is the first aerial photograph of the municipality of Las Torres de Cotillas, of which there is evidence, an image of great historical value and remarkable quality based on the technology existing in the decade of the years twenty of the last century.
The one that was one of the aces of the incipient Spanish aviation and in 1926 member of the successful expedition in hydroplane "Plus Ultra" that would cross the Atlantic in a flight of 10,000 kilometers between Huelva and Buenos Aires, the aforementioned Ruiz de Alda, used to those snapshots of height - of negative format of 6x9 cms. - a British light aircraft of a single engine De Havilland brand and model DH-87 A and a camera also of English manufacture - of the Eagle series marketed by the factory Williamson Manufacturing Company -
