The City of Las Torres de Cotillas has approved an action plan for climate and sustainable energy, as a result of its concern for the need to take action in the face of global warming.
In the elaboration of this plan, framed in the European strategy of the Covenant of Mayors for sustainable energy, a diagnosis of the greenhouse gas emissions of the municipality has been made with 2008 as reference year.
Based on this diagnosis, an action plan has been prepared to mitigate the effects of climate change with the 2030 horizon.
Most of the weight of the reduction of emissions in the municipality falls on the transport, so the measures for the transition to soft mobility modes and the diversification to vehicles of alternative fuels are very important, as well as for the local generation of renewable electric energy.
The foreseeable result after applying said measures is the total reduction of 42% of CO2 emissions from the reference year.
Adaptation plan to climate change
In addition, this document includes a plan to adapt the municipality to climate change, with a horizon of 2030, aimed at adopting measures that facilitate a better adaptation to the reality of global warming.
This plan, the first approved in the Region of Murcia, has 31 measures within the sectors studied: building, transport, energy, water, waste, territorial planning, environment and biodiversity, health, civil protection and emergencies and cross-cutting measures.
Among the proposed actions include measures such as the promotion of buildings with elements of adaptation to climate change, the creation of corridors and green paths tucked in urban and peri-urban areas, the service of help against energy poverty, a plan for the protection of Energy infrastructures sensitive to climate change or the promotion of habits for the reduction of water consumption in the home
In addition, an intelligent irrigation management system for parks and gardens, an emergency plan for droughts, the installation of a storm tank, the monitoring and improvement of the efficiency of the microsectorized water distribution network, the study are contemplated. of analysis on the possible demands with adaptation criteria for the new buildings and the update of the PGMO to include criteria of adaptation to climate change.
Likewise, it will proceed to the increase of urban green areas, the improvement of design and management of parks and gardens, the improvement of the control systems of infectious vectors, the creation of healthy and safe routes, awareness campaigns for the protection against solar radiation and extreme temperatures, the improvement of telecare services and awareness and awareness campaigns for citizens.
