The City of Las Torres de Cotillas, in order to achieve greater security for users of El Parque school and the adjoining public road, has been forced to prune two ficus located inside the center.
Some trees on which the Local Police informed in mid-February that they obstructed the illumination of an attached lamp, reason why the responsible company released this luminary cutting the lateral and previous branches of both ficus.
After this action the structure of the ficus was decompensated, a situation that in the future could produce tears of its branches due to its high lateral and vertical development, with high risk for the educational community, school and pedestrians.
Given this situation, it has been decided to carry out a training pruning that favors the balanced development of both trees in the long term.
In addition, it has proceeded to guide its branches so that it does not obstruct the lighting of the adjacent lampposts.
In spring or summer
"This work should be done in spring or early summer, times in which the tree has greater vitality", explain from the company responsible for the municipal service of maintenance of green areas.
It has also been taken into account that at this time these types of trees are developed with a lot of vigor, being necessary periodically that their structure be corrected to adapt it to a public area as is the case.
The care and pruning of trees on public roads is a very important aspect to consider.
In fact, from Torreño City Council point out as an example the huge detachment suffered in June 2017 the great ficus of the Plaza Santa Domingo de Murcia, due to overweight and structural imbalance.
