The patron festivities of the neighborhood of La Cruz de Las Torres de Cotillas ended last Friday, May 3rd.
A day in which his neighbors had a happy awakening of festive dawn with the firing of a large firecracker.
In the afternoon it was the turn of the traditional procession with the image of the Holy Cross, which left the church of Our Lady of Salceda for the Hermitage of the Cross.
This parade had a large participation of residents of the municipality, including the mayor Isabel María Zapata, and whose conclusion was a mass in the busy plaza.
As a culmination, at night a chocolatada con churros was held in the Plaza de la Ermita, enlivened by the performance of the Selin orchestra.
The festivities were finally closed by a big fire on the edge of dawn.
Broad program
These celebrations began on Saturday, April 27, with the celebration of the Mayos, in which the bell of auroros torreña Our Lady of the Rosary interpreted the traditional songs of these dates at the gates of the Hermitage of the district.
A Mayan tradition inherited from the ancient custom of welcoming the month with altars adorned with all kinds of flowers, using the cross as the main element.
For this reason, in this Torreño neighborhood that has celebrated these festivities for more than 160 years with a marked popular and traditional character, this act is more than indicated.
The band of Las Torres de Cotillas offered a nice concert on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 1.
This performance with free assistance took place in the Plaza de la Ermita in the neighborhood and Torreño musicians performed various pieces of their repertoire, before a large audience that enjoyed both the music and the good afternoon weather.
A day that had two other appointments: the transfer of the Holy Cross to the church of Our Lady of Salceda and the continuation of the liturgical triduum in the Hermitage of the Cross, which had begun the previous day.
Thursday, May 2 was also a day full of activities, with children's games (inflatable, children's entertainment, workshops ...) in the Plaza de la Ermita in the afternoon, the conclusion of the liturgical triduum and a spectacular watertight of the 60's in the Plaza de la Ermita already at night.
