Next Monday, June 17, the deadline for the submission of entries for the VIII National Amateur Theater Competition Juan Baños de Las Torres de Cotillas is closed.
Organized by the Torreño City Council in collaboration with the amateur theater group Tejuba, it will be held on 5, 12, 19 and 26 of the next month of October.
Once the applications have been submitted, a selection committee will choose a total of four participating groups and two reservations. "We hope to have as good a reception as last year, where 30 companies showed up, from which the four chosen ones that participated in the contest came out" , says the acting mayor, Isabel María Zapata, who recalls that all the works will be performed at the Pedro Serna House of Culture.
The representations will count one more year with an entry of 3 euros and the closing will be again in charge of the group Torreño Tejuba, which will represent a work out of competition.
This will take place on November 9 during the awards ceremony.
More than 2,000 euros in prizes
"It is a highly prestigious event in the amateur theatrical calendar of our country, which offers important prizes and in which we always have a lot of works and great quality to be able to offer a great poster", points out the Councilor of Culture in functions, Pedro Cabrera
Prizes amounting to nearly 2,000 euros and will be distributed as follows: 1,000 euros and trophy for the best show;
200 euros and trophy for the best actor and actress;
100 euros and trophy for the best address;
and 100 euros and trophy for the best actress and supporting actor.
In the last edition the great winner was the play "Huanita" represented by the company Theater in Construction of Elche, since it took the prizes to the best work, actor and actress.
