The Health Center of Las Torres de Cotillas is developing this year a workshop to support caregivers of sick people, which has a total of seven sessions of one hour and free assistance.
Its objective is to guide attendees and give them positive reinforcements to acquire greater autonomy, reducing negative effects for both the patient and the family environment.
"It also seeks to involve the caregiver in the care of the patient at home, receiving emotional support, to deal with crisis situations", explains the Councilor for Health, Alberta Martínez Vázquez
"This workshop is aimed at those non-professionals who have assumed the role of primary caregiver of a patient and who usually live in the same family as the bedridden patient," says the mayor.
Organized by nurse Juana Robles, it is taught in the multipurpose room of the Torreño Health Center and has the collaboration of other health professionals (doctors, nurses, social worker and palliative care team).
Different sessions
The sessions offer training on maintenance of basic needs, such as food, nutrition, hydration, affection, self-esteem or adaptation of the environment, knowledge of mindfulness therapy, advice on economic and social aid.
"As community care nurses, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to which we belong, we are obliged to guarantee the care of these caregivers," says Robles.
"Those people who, without training, are delivering something more, something as valuable as their time and a great dose of affection," he says.
The last session took place on Wednesday, June 26, while there are still three more (all at 1:00 pm): on September 26 will be reported on economic and social resources, on October 30 will provide information to address complex situations and on November 27 the closing will be held, with an exchange of opinions and suggestions.
