"At parties too, the NO is NO. For parties free of sexist aggressions."
This is one of the slogans that the City Council of Las Torres de Cotillas has chosen to accompany the declaration of their local parties free of sexist aggressions, approved in the city hall.
"From the institutions we must claim parties based on respect and free from aggressions, but also free from passive attitudes against any physical or verbal expression that does not respect women," says Mayor Torreño, Joaquín Vela Fernández, who recalls the need of emphasizing the visibility and consideration of sexist aggressions "as a social and not private problem".
This declaration carries with it an informative campaign with which posters and information leaflets will be distributed in leisure centers and companies in the municipality.
"Napkins will also be distributed in hotel establishments with an awareness message and a permanent information point will be created on the municipal website," says the councilor for Equality, María del Mar Ruiz Rosillo.
Other actions at parties
In various festive events 'Lilac Points' will also be established, which will offer guidance, advice and information on sexist aggressions.
"In addition, specialized personnel of the CAVI of Las Torres de Cotillas and the CAVAX of Murcia will train volunteers to pay attention to the 'Lilac Points' throughout 2019 and 2020, and thus promote the social participation of the municipality in prevention and elimination of this type of behavior, "explains the mayor.
Free from any aggression
This institutional initiative also contemplates the declaration of the municipality as free of all types of aggressions throughout the year.
"The government team proposes to establish a strategy as a municipality free of aggressions of all kinds, including local parties and any other festive or leisure event that takes place during the annual programming in the town," explains Mayor Torreño, who points out that All this must be the result of cooperation, consensus and coordination between councilors, organizations and citizens.
