The priest Joaquín Sánchez, who was pastor in the church of Our Lady of the Assumption of Los Pulpites, has been designated as a preacher of the 2019 festivities of Las Torres de Cotillas.
Priest since 1987, 'Joaquin the priest' - as he is popularly known - will read his proclamation on Friday, August 23 (22 hours) during the gala presentation of the festivities, which will take place in the municipal auditorium Juan Baño.
"I want to gather my experiences of these holidays, the importance of traditions, of the values that emanate, of the importance of uniting faith and life, to end up proclaiming hope, because it is a town with many qualities, with problems too, and with many possibilities, "he says.
His choice took him by surprise and he acknowledges that he has needed a few days to convince himself that it has not been a dream.
"I accept it with enthusiasm, as a service and with great gratitude, with the responsibility so that the words I speak reach the heart and contribute to continue together in this path of life," he says.
Some parties he has lived intensely, which in his opinion enjoy a fundamental spirit - "the participation of the people, a generous participation, full of enthusiasm and creativity" - and in which he would highlight four acts.
"The traditional Eucharist in honor of Our Lady of Salceda and the popular procession through the streets of our town, where faith and life come together, with an open, inclusive and respectful character; floats, which collect participation, the creativity and the illusion, above all, of the children, and the burning of the scrape, which from the present honors the orchard past, opening to the future, "he says.
Very dear and active
This is how he receives recognition from Las Torres de Cotillas, who after many years affectionately returns everything he has given to the municipality.
"For me this town represents the donation of a selfless and free love, where the doors have opened from the first moment of stepping on it. They are kind, close and grateful people, who have treated me with much affection and closeness", highlights the preacher .
Diploma in Social Education and a lover of cinema and reading, 'Joaquin the priest' is known for his marked social activism: against evictions collaborating in the prison, in the psychiatric center and in nursing homes, with physically disabled people ... "Always I have believed that the priestly ministry must be lived as a service, not as a power. To be at the side of the impoverished from the accompaniment, asking for the conversion of the heart of those who impoverish, to be a sign of hope and not of resignation and submission ", Explain.
