The Badminton Las Torres club has no borders.
Three of its members - Candido Osorio, Antonio Brao and Manuel Berrocal - are already in Chengdu (China) to participate in the XVIII World Police and Firefighters Championships that are held until August 18.
"They will compete in the category of veterans, where the club is a true national reference, and we expect a lot from them because they are high level players," says Torreño Mayor Joaquín Vela Fernández.
The three Torreño players already surrendered at a high level in the last European Games played in Algeciras, hanging a total of five medals: in individual Berrocal was gold and Brao silver, while in doubles both were champions, with Osorio hanging a silver with his partner German.
The second most important date in the world
This World Cup is held every two years - in alternation with the European championship - and in this edition expects about 15,000 athletes from more than 80 countries to participate in more than 60 sports modalities.
"This championship brings together so many athletes that it has become the second most important sporting event in the world, just behind the Olympic Games," explains the Councilor for Health and Sport, Alberta Vázquez Martínez.
