The workshop to support caregivers of sick people that develops the Health Center of Las Torres de Cotillas is coming to an end.
On November 27 (13 hours) will be held the last of the seven planned sessions, which have an hour duration and free assistance.
An initiative aimed at those non-professional people who have assumed the role of the primary caregiver of a patient and who usually live in the same family nucleus as the bedridden patient.
Its objective is to guide the assistants and provide them with positive reinforcements to acquire greater autonomy, reducing negative effects for both the patient and the family environment. Another purpose of this workshop is to involve the caregiver in the care of the patient at home, receiving an emotional support, to face crisis situations.
Organized by the nurse Juana Robles, it is taught in the multipurpose room of the Torreño Health Center and has the collaboration of other health professionals (doctors, nurses, social worker and palliative care team).
Different sessions
The sessions offer training on maintenance of basic needs, aspects such as food, nutrition, hydration, affection, self-esteem or adaptation of the environment, knowledge of mindfulness therapy, advice on economic and social aids.
"As community care nurses, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to which we belong, we are obliged to guarantee the care of these caregivers," says Robles. "Those people who, without training, are delivering something else, something as valuable as it is his time and a great dose of love, "he determines.
