The workshop to support caregivers of sick people who have developed the Health Center of Las Torres de Cotillas in recent months has already come to an end.
Organized by the nurse Juana Robles and with the collaboration of other health professionals (doctors, nurses, social worker and palliative care team), last Wednesday, November 27, she held the last of her seven sessions and presented the diplomas to her participants.
"The sessions have had an hour of duration and free assistance, and were addressed to those non-professional people who have assumed the role of the primary caregiver of a patient and who usually live in the same family nucleus as the bedridden patient," explains the Councilor for Social Services, María del Mar Ruiz Rosillo.
Its objective was to guide the assistants and provide them with positive reinforcements to acquire greater autonomy, reducing negative effects for both the patient and the family environment. Another purpose of this workshop was to involve the caregiver in the care of the patient at home, receiving an emotional support, to face crisis situations.
Different sessions
The sessions have offered training on maintenance of basic needs, aspects such as food, nutrition, hydration, affection, self-esteem or adaptation of the environment, knowledge of mindfulness therapy, advice on economic and social aids.
"As community care nurses, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to which we belong, we are obliged to guarantee the care of these caregivers," says Robles. "Those people who, without training, are delivering something else, something as valuable as it is his time and a great dose of love, "he determines.
