The students of 1st of the ESO of the Divine Master school of Las Torres de Cotillas have immersed themselves in the "Bioprofiles", an Erasmus + project in which they collaborate with other centers in the United Kingdom, Italy and Slovakia.
"Its objective is to weave a European school network that promotes environmental education in the classroom, involving students and their families in the protection of the environment," explains the Councilor for the Environment, Francisco Fernández Baño, who received them Monday 24 February at the City Hall.
With this project, schoolchildren have learned to measure local green spaces with the GoogleMaps tool, coming to appreciate their need and importance and to know the European recommendations in this regard.
In the meeting with the councilor of the area they have shown him the data obtained and have requested the planting of 30 pine trees to counteract CO2 emissions due to environmental pollution.
"A mature carrasco pine can absorb about 50 tons of CO2 per year, so that a single copy neutralizes the emission of almost 30 medium-sized cars that travel about 10,000 kilometers in that period," said the mayor, who has taken good note of the request to make it effective in the shortest possible time.
