The Local Police of Las Torres de Cotillas and the Civil Guard have already imposed more than 30 fines in the municipal area in application of Royal Decree 463/2020, of March 14, 2020, which establishes home confinement in the face of the health crisis created by the coronavirus.
"To stop its spread, staying home to avoid unnecessary contacts is the main precautionary measure, always excepting the permitted cases," explains Mayor Joaquín Vela Fernández.
In the first hours of application, the police forces only carried out explanatory tasks among the population, due to possible ignorance.
"But once the majority of our neighbors are clear that by law they must stay home, we have begun to apply them rigorously, so that people become aware of the seriousness of this situation," says Councilor for Citizen Security Francisco José Caravaca Bravo , which reports that controls are being carried out on both pedestrians and vehicles throughout the municipality.
"The country is in a state of alarm. In general, the collaboration is being exceptional, but we must have a tough hand with those few people who, in such a critical situation as this, stroll down the street calmly, doing social life normally. Those attitudes are unacceptable, we must be responsible for our own good and that of others, "complains the mayor, who recalls that the planned sanctions can range from 601 to 30,000 euros.
