| A changing room-stands will be built for the Onofre Fernández Verdú football field - to which the artificial grass will be replaced - a track of roller hockey, an archery range and a street workout-calisthenics park | The City Council of Las Torres de Cotillas has already started works to improve the facilities of the municipal sports center, which will have a municipal investment of almost 976,000 euros.
Among the planned works, which have a maximum execution period of 9 months, the construction of a changing room for the Onofre Fernández Verdú football field stands out.
"We have been without these facilities for years and there is an urgent need to provide quality service to the thousands of people who use these facilities each year," says Mayor Torreño, Joaquín Vela Fernández. This construction will have 342'24 m2 for changing rooms -three for athletes and two for referees-, warehouses and public toilets, while a total of 267, '3 m2 will be destined for a covered stand with 304 seats, and 278'16 m2 for a low-tier area, where warehouses and facilities rooms will be located. In addition, the artificial grass of the Onofre Fernández Verdú field, which was installed in 2008 and already has deficiencies, will be changed.
"The old grass will be used to garden flowerbeds in the sports center itself," says the Councilor for Health and Sports, Verónica Morcillo De la Torre. Other facilities This improvement of the municipal sports complex will also involve the construction of a perimeter-closed roller hockey rink, whose playing field will have a surface of 44x22 meters.
"This sport is booming in our municipality, thanks especially to the work carried out by the Roller Queen club among the youngest," says the mayor. Archery is another discipline with deep roots in Las Torres de Cotillas, for which its athletes will have a new field in which they will be able to shoot a distance of up to 90 meters thanks to its wide dimensions (106 meters long by 15 meters wide).
The culmination of this project is the creation of a 900.00 m2 street workout-calisthenics park.
"These are sports that combine basic physical exercises in which the own weight is used with acrobatic exercises, characteristics that make it very attractive for young people," reports the mayor. "All the new facilities will be adapted for people with reduced mobility and will have their own lighting, and to provide them with an electrical supply, the installation of solar panels has also been planned," says the Town Planning Councilor, Francisco Fernández Baño, who points out that will build a new perimeter wall to "unify the enclosure of the sports complex in its entirety".
