| Organized by the Department of Education, this event will discuss the preference of studying co-official or foreign languages ??in our country | Next Friday, July 10 (19 hours), the Pedro Serna House of Culture in Las Torres de Cotillas will be the scene of an interesting proposal: a debate open to the public and with free admission, which will take place within the framework of the municipal workshop of this discipline that usually develops the Department of Education.
"The main objective is to show the important role of debate training received by Torreño students in this activity," explains Councilor Rafael Martínez García. Two teams made up of four students each will participate (all of them from the municipality), who will discuss the following proposition: is it more useful, in Spain, to learn a co-official language than a foreign language (excluding English)? The sets will be made up of an introducer, an argumentator, a refuter and a conclusor, and one of them will be in favor of the proposition and the other against it.
"At the end of the debate the public will be able to ask questions to the speakers and all the participants will take a voucher in stationery," explains the mayor, who points out that the regional debate has been suspended due to the crisis by COVID-19. The jury will be made up of the second vice president of the Regional Assembly, Gloria Alarcón; the general director of Youth, Raúl Puche Martínez; the Councilor for Education, Rafael Martínez; Professors Isabel Zúnica and Concepción Vicente; the debater of the municipality Álvaro Montes; and the trainer, Pedro Guerrero.
"With this debate, we also want to highlight the importance of languages ??and their learning, as the framework strategy for multilingualism of the European Commission defends," says Mayor Torreño, Joaquín Vela Fernández, who will also be a member of the jury.
