| He was third in the absolute category outdoors in the competition held this past weekend in Madrid | The young athlete from Torreño Sergio Jornet (UCAM Atletismo Cartagena) took the bronze medal this past weekend in the decathlon event of the absolute outdoor Spanish Championship held in Madrid.
With 7,132 points the Torreño was only behind Bruno Comín (7,303) and Mario Arancón (7,198).
"His score could have been higher and he could even have aspired to gold under normal conditions, but Sergio - who is diabetic - suffered a drop in blood sugar in the high jump and 400 meter events, which prevented him from adding the usual score" , indicates the Councilor for Health and Sports, Verónica Morcillo De La Torre. After adding three medals a few days ago in the regional - gold in 110 meters hurdles, silver in shot put and bronze in pole vault -, Jornet once again gained his extensive sports record in his favorite event with which he has even made his debut with the Spanish shirt.
"It is a luxury to have Sergio among our athletes, because wherever he goes he fills us with pride with his performances.
Congratulations on this great achievement," explains Torreño mayor, Joaquín Vela Fernández.
