The Councils of Health and Physical Activity and Sports of Las Torres de Cotillas have closed a new edition of the program "ACTIVA Familias", whose objective is to fight against childhood obesity through the prescription of physical exercise by pediatricians and doctors of family.
Once again implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of the regional government, this initiative has free participation and is based on prevention.
"The spirit of the program is to educate and form healthy habits through the promotion of physical exercise, since children and adults who do not practice it usually have a greater risk of suffering from diseases," said Councilwoman of Health, Inmaculada Fernández.
"The participating children are supervised in the municipal facilities by a specialized sports monitor and start in a fun way in sports practice, while enhancing their social skills," explains the director of Physical Activity and Sports, Ginés Pérez, who participated In the closing ceremony of the course that took place last June 15 in the State Sport Las Torres and in which the children received a medal for their attendance.
This program also involves the family of the participants, since the parents perform with their children physical exercise two days a week - of the five proposed - and attend educational sessions dealing with healthy eating, resolution of family conflicts, Healthy physical exercise and parent school.
"The new edition will take place between September and June, and parents who are interested in having their children participate should be directed to their pediatrician," Fernández said.
Another 'ACTIVE'
This initiative is the continuation in the municipality of the "Active Program", which since October 2012 pursues the same objective in older groups with cardiovascular risk factors, chronic diseases, etc.
