Next Sunday, September 24, Las Torres de Cotillas will be hosting a 'Journey on Wheels', within the framework of the European project 'Do-U-Sport'.
Organized by the Department of Physical Activity and Sports, this event - which has the motto "Developing values of road education" will begin at 10 hours with an urban route that will leave from the municipal sports center.
"All athletes who develop disciplines on wheels, such as bicycles, skates, scooters, skateboards, carriages, etc., are mentioned," says the councilor of the area, Ginés Pérez, who points out that motor vehicles are excluded from the call.
An hour later the participants will return to the municipal sports center (11 hours) to participate in a road safety practice given by Local Police agents and by volunteers from the local Civil Protection body.
"This proposal is part of the free family sport activities that we will celebrate each month with this project, in which participants will receive gifts, gifts and prizes," explains the mayor, who reminds that among people who participate in all these events and properly seal their sports passport "will be raffled a trip to Portugal with all expenses paid."
European project
The European project 'Do-U-Sport' of the Erasmus + program has as main objective to explore the role of the local authorities in the promotion of sport as an activity for all, free of barriers.
In this initiative, which began last January and lasts until December 2018, Las Torres de Cotillas participates in collaboration with the municipalities of Tábua (Portugal) and Mielec (Poland).
With a budget of almost 31,500 euros for the Torreño municipality, this project is subsidized by almost 75% by the European Commission.
"Consolidating the role of local authorities in promoting sports for all, increasing the number of people and organizations involved in sports activities at the local level or promoting a deeper understanding of how sport is seen and lived in municipalities are other of the objectives of this project that is already underway, "explains Pérez.
