Tennis, paddle, badminton, frontenis and table tennis.
Those are the sports that can be learned or practiced by those attending the 'Racquet Sports Day' which will be held on Sunday, October 8 (10 hours) in the municipal sports center of Las Torres de Cotillas.
Organized by the Department of Physical Activity and Sports in the framework of the European project 'Do-U-Sport', this activity has the motto 'Developing values of improvement, effort and personal growth'.
"All neighbors who want to start or practice, regardless of the level, different racket sports that can be enjoyed in the municipality are invited," said the councilor of the area, Ginés Pérez, who remembers that the participants must come with their own rackets and the sports passport to seal and credit this new day.
During the day there will be games and exhibitions of the mentioned sports, taking advantage of the collaboration of the monitors of the different clubs and sports schools, like the Badminton Las Torres, the Las Torres Tennis Association or the Las Towers between rackets'.
"In addition, to complement the day there will also be music, animation, gifts and workshops of drawing and painting," notes the mayor, who remembers that last September 24 was a similar activity focused on sports on wheels.
European project
"This proposal is part of the free family sport activities that we will celebrate each month with this project, in which participants will receive gifts, gifts and prizes," explains the councilman, who remembers that among people who participate in all these events and properly seal their sports passport "will be raffled a trip to Portugal with all expenses paid."
The European project 'Do-U-Sport' of the Erasmus + program has as main objective to explore the role of the local authorities in the promotion of sport as an activity for all, free of barriers.
In this initiative, which began last January and lasts until December 2018, Las Torres de Cotillas participates in collaboration with the municipalities of Tábua (Portugal) and Mielec (Poland).
With a budget of almost 31,500 euros for the Torreño municipality, this project is subsidized by almost 75% by the European Commission.
"Consolidating the role of local authorities in promoting sports for all, increasing the number of people and organizations involved in sports activities at the local level or promoting a deeper understanding of how sport is seen and lived in municipalities are other of the objectives of this project that is already underway, "explains Pérez.
