Professor Pedro Peinado, from IES 'Salvador Sandoval' in Las Torres de Cotillas, has been awarded the 'Francisco Giner de los Ríos' award for educational innovation, awarded by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the BBVA Foundation.
His teaching orchard project - which he dubbed 'Planting Numbers' - has earned him this recognition in the scientific-technological modality of Secondary Education and Baccalaureate, and a cash prize of 15,000 euros.
With this proposal the teacher relies on the plantations located in the courtyard of the center - mainly vegetables - as a methodological vehicle for teaching mathematics, supported by Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
"Pedro is one of the eight Spanish professors who has received this award and we are very happy that he has developed this interesting initiative in our institute," explains Mayor Torreño, Domingo Coronado, who has received Peinado this morning in the Local council to be interested personally in this initiative and has given the congratulations in person.
An event in which also participated the Councilor for Education, Pedro Cabrera, and the director of the center, Jesus Lopez.
Peinado is the coordinator of the Research Baccalaureate in the Torreño center and has been responsible for other nationally recognized projects such as the "Scientific, Artistic and Literary Routes" and has contributed to the achievement of the regional award of the contest "The country of students "this year.
