5 million euros.
That is the amount in aid of FEDER funds to which the City of Las Torres de Cotillas will re-opt with its Integrated Sustainable Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI) 'Las Torres Conecta'.
"We presented ourselves for the first time in the previous edition and we were just behind Murcia, and ahead of municipalities with a larger population, such as Cartagena, Molina de Segura or Águilas, or of others who presented themselves for the second time to the call" Torreño mayor Domingo Coronado explains, adding that a contribution of 1,250,000 euros will be added to this aid to develop this plan that includes various improvement projects in the area.
"This strategy is an opportunity to solve present problems and design future actions that lead us to enjoy a coexistence based on respect, the reconciliation of personal and work life, care for the environment, freedom, integration of the most vulnerable population, in equality ... And all this until our city is considered a benchmark, "says Coronado.
Different lines of work
The EDUSI, which was approved last December by the municipal plenary session with the only votes against Cambio Las Torres, is a project born from the participation of various associations and collectives of the municipality.
"During months they have contributed their ideas and opinions for the improvement of the locality, to vertebrar a line of work that is reflected in the project that we have already presented", emphasizes the councilor of Economy and Property, Personnel, Employment and New Technologies, Ángel González
This plan - which after the first presentation has been developed and completed - contemplates a wide variety of lines of action, among which the following stand out: the development of actions necessary to catalog the city as a smart city;
the development of sustainable urban mobility and connection with districts and industrial zones;
the promotion of the use of renewable energies in buildings and municipal vehicles;
a program for the improvement of cultural infrastructures, cultural heritage and the organization of their public use;
the transfer of the National Radio of Spain (RNE) antenna from its current location in the Parque de la Emisora to an area outside the urban area;
the creation of a young housing plan and a multi-generation intergenerational social center;
and a plan for urban regeneration and social and labor integration in disadvantaged areas.
"Now we have the possibility to delve into the development of all these ideas with the decisive participation of the public, which has established a diagnosis of the situation of Las Torres de Cotillas, and a prioritization of the lines of action, based on issues shared from a long time ago for the entire population ", explains González.
