The Carnival 2018 of Las Torres de Cotillas comes with two important novelties this year: a national contest of chirigotas and a children's parade.
This was announced today, Thursday, January 18 by the mayor Isabel María Zapata, who together with her councilor of Celebrations, Amalia Pérez, presented the municipal activities for these celebrations.
"The Carnival is very expected and fun, which has great support in our town because all the activities are very busy," explains Zapata.
"We wanted to create this contest because the chirigotas have for years a special role in our Carnival, acting in the evening of the proclamations and making the public laugh that always fills the House of Culture," says the mayor.
This 'I Carnival Chirigota Contest' will take place on Thursday 15 February (21 hours) at the House of Culture 'Pedro Serna' and will offer important prizes: 1,000 euros to the first and 500 euros to the second.
"Groups from all over Spain will be able to participate and their registration ends on January 31," says Pérez.
"The two winning groups will receive their prize at the Carnival proclamation reading gala and, in addition, they will offer a performance", specifies the mayor, who recalls that the registration form is available on the municipal website (www.lastorresdecotillas.es/ council-of-participation-citizen-immigration-and-celebrations).
A proclamation that this year will offer the nursery school 'Soletes' in the voice of Toñi Jiménez, also present in today's presentation.
It will be during the evening to be held on Friday February 16 (21 hours) also at the Casa de la Cultura Torrena.
Everyone to parade
And arrived at the weekend will be the time for hundreds of people parade through the streets of the municipality, volcandosu imagination, talent and all their desire to have fun.
On Saturday, February 17 (17 hours) will be the adult parade, whose route will depart from Juan Carlos I Avenue and will arrive at the Ermita de la Cruz.
"For the time being there are 24 registered troupes that will participate in both parades, all of them from our town, and next Tuesday the registration deadline closes," says Pérez.
For its part, the other novelty this year -the children's parade- will take place on Sunday, February 18 (12 hours), with the same starting point, but with arrival at Mula street.
"All the parades of the town are a great representation of the social and cultural life of the municipality, and an example of how are Torreños: cheerful, lively, smiling and very inventive," says the council.
