About 150 people of all ages, divided into 17 teams, participated in the morning of Sunday, February 25 at the urban gymkhana that was held in Las Torres de Cotillas with the European project 'Do-U-Sport'.
"It was a test open to the public, in which we have the inestimable collaboration of the 'Ithaca' scout group and awards given by the 'Las Torres Business Area'," explains the mayor Isabel María Zapata.
Games of precision, cooperation, physical ability, sensory skills or knowledge about the town were some of the tests faced by participants across the length and breadth of the municipality.
"We saw many families and groups of friends having a great time in a morning of sport and healthy pastime for all," says Councilor for Youth, Physical Activity and Sports, Ginés Pérez.
"The starting point was the Center for Young Artists and the tests were developed throughout the municipality, as in the squares Adolfo Suárez, Huertano or the old City Hall, the Parque de la Constitución, the Fernández Jara promenade, the sports center ..." , says the mayor.
Many activities
This was the seventh activity of the 'Do-U-Sport' project, with which five other activities have already been held (kite flying, multi-adventure, dance and roller sports), while hiking activities were postpone to May 6 due to bad weather.
"In addition, we have a date for the next activity, a day of sport on the street to be held in the Parque de la Constitución on March 11," Pérez said.
Some proposals that are part of the free sports activities with family that take place every month with this project, in which the participants receive gifts, gifts and prizes.
People who participate in all these events and duly stamp their sports passport will be eligible to draw a trip to Portugal with all expenses paid, "says the mayor.
European project
The European project 'Do-U-Sport' is part of the 'Erasmus +' program and its main objective is to explore the role of local authorities in the promotion of sport as an activity for all, free of barriers.
In this proposal, which began in January 2017 and will last until next December, Las Torres de Cotillas participates in collaboration with the municipalities of Tábua (Portugal) and Mielec (Poland).
With a budget of almost 31,500 euros for the Torreño municipality, this project is subsidized by almost 75% by the European Commission.
"Consolidating the role of local authorities in promoting sports for all, increasing the number of people and organizations involved in sports activities at the local level or promoting a deeper understanding of how sports are seen and experienced in the municipalities are other of the objectives of this project that is already underway, "explains Pérez.
