Today is March 8, international day for the rights of women and world peace, and the municipality of Las Torres de Cotillas continues to enjoy the program of events that the Department of Equality has prepared to commemorate this day.
From early in the morning a group of about 80 people is challenging the cold to participate in the 'I Route Gatrosport', a proposal that links gastronomy and hiking.
"We are going to follow an itinerary that will take us through several catering establishments in the municipality, with a route that has about 8 kilometers," says the Councilor for Equality, María Dolores Sánchez, who also participates in this route.
An activity that has counted in the beginning with the assistance of the mayor Isabel María Zapata and in which she has given -as in all the proposals of this program of activities of March 8- an ovation for María Ángeles, the neighbor of the municipality who was attacked a few days ago in an alleged case of gender violence.
Yesterday, March 7, the proposal of the Department of Equality was double: in the morning the House of Culture 'Pedro Serna' was the scene of the talk 'The role of women in cinema', given by Miriam Oller and presented by Zapata;
and in the afternoon the women's association 'Isabel González' held a pastry tasting at the 'Garden' cafeteria in the town, which was also attended by the mayor.
More activities
Tomorrow, Friday, March 9, the activity will return to the local House of Culture with the event 'Verses for equality with Carmen Montero' (20'15 hours), which will be presented by Mª Ángeles Moragues.
In addition, for Sunday, March 11, a trip to Guadalest and Calpe is planned, with a price of 24 euros and limited places, in which the women's association 'Isabel González' collaborates. To end these activities on Wednesday, the 14th and Thursday On March 15th, the free workshops of the 'Women's Journey - Enter Your Trip' project will take place on March 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
"These are sessions for both entrepreneurs and for unemployed women between the ages of 23 and 60, in an initiative that was created to promote the empowerment of women in decision-making in their professional and personal spheres through the promotion of their projects and work and personal initiatives", highlights the mayor Isabel María Zapata.
Acts already enjoyed
The program of activities of the Department of Equality began on the afternoon of last Friday, March 2 with the dispute of the third edition of the women's indoor soccer championship 'Por la Igualdad'.
An event that was held in the sports hall and was attended by the general director of Women and Equality Alicia Barquero, who served as godmother.
"The entrance, of one euro, was for the benefit of the women's associations of the municipality and in the organization of the tournament was also involved the '20 de Copas' club and the Department of Sports, Civil Protection and Local Police collaborated," explains Zapata .
One day later, the Women's Center, located in the municipal auditorium 'Juan Baño', hosted the official presentation of 'For All', the new women's association of the municipality.
This presentation was attended by the Councilor for Equality, who wished the best to this new entity chaired by Loli Martinez.
'For All' is the third female group of the municipality, which already has the association 'Isabel González' and the 'Association of Senegalese Women of Las Torres de Cotillas' (AMSET).
In addition, on the afternoon of Monday, March 5, a storyteller and a craft workshop took place at the Casa de la Cultura 'Pedro Serna'.
This proposal, which had the motto 'Values ​​and equality', had a large attendance of children who laughed and enjoyed the interpretation of Miriam Oller and the subsequent manual works.
