The official historian of the town of Las Torres Albudeite Cotillas and was part of the municipality issuing albudeitero who traveled from the past 21 and 27 January at the French town of Saint Genies of Fontedit to formalize the twinning between the two peoples.
Albudeitera The delegation was led by its mayor, Joaquín Martínez, corporate members and neighbors, while coordination was provided by the efficient and tireless Fran Beltran, the local development agent.
The twinning ceremony attended by consuls of Spain in Narbonne and Montpellier, as well as the mayor of Saint Genies, Henri Barthes, in perfect Castilian welcomed and made a semblance of albudeiteros in its passage through Saint Genies.
The French hosted the Spanish in their homes and showed them not only their people but also the whole region, visiting Agde, Sète and Béziers, and holding many meetings with various sectors and groups.
A new meeting between the two populations will take place in May and on that occasion will be the "brothers" Frenchmen traveling to Albudeite.
Since 1959
As part of the European project of "Europe for Citizens" which aims at bringing together people from different countries of the European Union, the origin of this event dates back to 1959, when Elizabeth Casales and Miguel Vicente went to the French wine harvest.
In later years, hundreds of albudeiteros followed in their footsteps by traveling to Saint Genies and many stayed there to live, marrying French men and women.
Such was the relationship that almost half of the inhabitants of the French villa speak Castilian.
Fontedit Saint Genies of land is in the Occitan, which speaks the language of Oc, today adrift and at great risk of disappearing.
