Stresses that "with facilities like these is how best to ensure the delivery of our biggest adequate services to their demands"
The President of the Autonomous Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, opened today in Las Torres de Cotillas the new building that houses the Day Center and Senior Social Center Township, the construction, equipment and operation represents an investment of more EUR 2.4 million paid for 50 per cent between the autonomous region and the municipality.
Valcárcel, who was accompanied by the Mayor of Las Torres de Cotillas, Domingo Coronado, and the Minister for Health and Social Policy, María Ángeles Palacios, said that "despite the crisis, social policy in 2013 remains a priority for the regional government, as evidenced by the creation of 37 new positions in day centers or major investment in Unit ", to which the Community contributes directly over 144 million euros from 201.6 million budgeted for this year, a 71.5 percent of the total.
"It is with facilities like these," said the regional chief executive, "as best guarantees our biggest providing adequate services to their demands, allowing them to remain socially valuable and face this stage of their lives fully active" .
This new building, built under an agreement signed in 2008 between the Community and Town Council Cotillas Towers, aims to provide the municipality of adequate infrastructure to provide services that had been in the old property transferred by the Administration IMSERSO regional in 1995, which provided for 700 m2 of floor space and 400 m2 of gardens and patios.
Dimensions which widely exceeds the new building, built on a plot of 5391 m2 donated by the City, which has 2,000 m2, distributed in two floors are located the Day Centre and the Social Centre for the Elderly.
The ground floor, which houses the Day Center, has nearly 1,300 m2 and also houses administrative and common services.
The first floor is divided between the library, six classrooms for workshops (one aimed at the computer) and the meeting room.
The facilities also with 3390 m2 of gardens and parks, to provide an environment accessible to all and suitable for recreation for the elderly.
The Day Centre has 27 beds for elderly dependents and is managed by the Organization 'Messengers of Peace' with a coordinator, a doctor, a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist, a nurse and three nursing assistants.
More seats for Day Centres
In the region there are 32 day centers, totaling 933 public squares, all subsidized by the Autonomous Community, which goes to the service over 7.5 million euros a year.
Of these 32 centers, there are 14 regional ownership, while 18 others, among which he includes in Cotillas Towers, which are municipally owned.
Throughout 2013, the day service centers will be expanded in the region with 37 new positions already being processed Cehegín 5 in, 5 in Cieza, Abarán 5, 7 and 15 in Jumilla in Los Dolores (Cartagena) .
For its part, the Centre for Social Senior Cotillas Towers, which has 3800 members, developing 14 activity workshops for adults, in order to provide active aging.
There are 17 social centers for older people who depend on Social Action Institute of Murcia, where there are about 120,000 registered higher.
During 2012, these centers 263 workshops held throughout the region, involving some 10,000 people.
These activities range from workshops on health, active aging, self-esteem or relaxation, to theater, gerontogimnasia, ballroom dancing, painting or reading, among others.
