The Department of Environment Cotillas Towers has made over the past months of February and March a new edition of its campaign of educational activities aimed at environmental awareness among school children of the town, which was also attended by members of the center that the town has the association of AFES mentally ill.

So, like every year there were two campaigns: one for the sensitization of the selective separation of waste, and another to promote water conservation.

They involved students in the fifth of seven Primary schools in the municipality ("Cervantes", "The Park", "Vista Alegre", "Joaquín Cantero", "Monte Azahar", "Divine Master" and "Susarte").

"The aim was to encourage the purchase of the same set of values ​​and knowledge that enable them to act and make personal decisions to urban and environmental issues, as well as the potential for transmission of the same to their families," said the Torrena area councilor, Inmaculada Fernández, recalling that this initiative has been underway for years in the town.

Recycling and water saving

The selective recycling campaign included visits to Municipal Ecopark located in the Industrial Park San Jorge and sought to familiarize future citizens with source separation of municipal solid waste, separate collection, Municipal Ecoparque operation and any other municipal initiative the field of household waste management.

In this initiative, the Department of Environment Torrena has enjoyed the cooperation of the company CESPA, which manages the facilities of that Ecopark.

Meanwhile, the water saving campaign featured visits to the treatment plant Wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in the city and her students could also check torreños cash savings involved the installation in 2009 of aerators on faucets of the nine schools of the locality.

This proposal, as is tradition, with the collaboration of the Public Water Utility (EPA).
