María Ángeles Palacios insists that we must harness the potential social centers for active and healthy aging
The Instituto Murciano Social Action (IMAS) met this week in Las Torres de Cotillas to Participation Councils of the 17 social centers for the elderly, dependent of the Community, in order to discuss the future of these centers and the role social functions.
The Minister for Health and Social Policy, María Ángeles Palacios, who attended the meeting, accompanied by the mayor of this town, Sunday Coronado, stressed that "we must strengthen the role of senior centers, because" there are only spaces for leisure free time and who have completed their active working life, but are forums for education and lifelong learning, and above all, to project knowledge to the younger ones. "
Palacios insisted that we must achieve a "healthy and active aging" and that senior centers "have to promote this way of life."
Therefore invited Participation Councils to continue on with the program of activities "to keep them physically and mentally active."
Participation Councils
Councils Involvement of senior centers are the body IMAS participation and collaboration with the activities and services in each community center and consist of seven representatives elected by the users themselves.
Each of these members is responsible for planning and organizing the activities of the areas in which the social structure of the center: health, community social, cultural, educational and occupational, sporting, leisure and cultural promotion coexistence and external .

The meeting held in the new Community Center Cotillas Towers recently opened was a day together in the Participation Councils to exchange experiences and deepen their work with active aging as a guiding principle for all activities.
