The president of the Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, today highlighted the "significant boost" to the Consum supermarket company in the region has to grow and invest in new facilities, "which shows their confidence in the economic and social potential of this Region ".
The regional chief executive, accompanied by the Minister of Universities, Business and Research, José Ballesta, and the CEO of the company union, Juan Luis Durich, inaugurated the new premises of the Consum Integrated Logistics Platform in the municipality of Las Cotillas Towers supplementing those already launched last year.
With these new facilities, the cooperative Consum has already made in the region a total investment of 100 million euros (20 million in the new plant), which will optimize the service to over 100 supermarkets located in four regions (Region Murcia, Valencia, Andalusia and Castilla-La Mancha).
So, President Valcárcel stressed that the cooperative supermarket, despite economic difficulties, has been able to maintain last year its sales figures, "to continue generating profits and creating jobs in the region and throughout Spain".
Furthermore, Consum, Valcarcel said, is making a firm commitment to innovation, in ways that can help reduce operating costs and improve competitiveness, "and a good example of this is this logistics platform strategically located in the region."
More than 500 jobs in the region
Consum employs more than 500 people in the region, employs 280 people directly and generates another 270 indirect jobs, about 80 in the new facilities that have been opened today.
The plant has 65,000 square meters covering the entire range of products supply chain logistics platform in a single (fresh, frozen and dry), which makes it the first and largest facility of its kind that has Consum Spain.
One of the important features of the new integrated platform that has been built is a criterion of operability and innovative energy efficiency.
The new platform Cotillas Towers incorporates the latest technology to optimize management logistics and make it sustainable, representing a decrease of 20 percent of electricity consumption compared to a conventional platform.
The refrigeration unit incorporates innovative energy-efficient systems, with an area of ​​500 photovoltaic solar panels that supply new renewable energy facilities.
Regarding waste management, integrated center highlights the return of containers, reusable containers and pallets, which prevents the generation of disposable waste.
There is also plastics processing systems and boards, so that all traces of the platform and supermarkets in its catchment area will be managed in the platform.
The platform also provides an area for the training of professionals who attend the sale in supermarkets custom meats, delicatessen and fish.
